Summary

Split Fiction is a 2025 cooperative multiplayer game. It follows two writers, Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster, as they become trapped in their imaginations.

So first of all I never got to play It takes two. Nothing against it it's just at the time i had a mentality of I'm way too old for this and felt embarrassed to play it with anyone. However I did play A way out and remember loving it although it does need a revisit. This game made me change my mind about it takes two and I shall visit it soon.

Back to this, one thing I've learned from Hazellight is that they will make an amazing offline co op game, and I've been saying this for years online co op has destroyed offline co op, which to me pisses me off because I did grow up with offline co op. Hopefully with this game resurrecting offline co cop we can get more great content like this we can enjoy with friends or family. Me and my best friend were immediately hooked up to this to a point where 2 grown ass men like us would get told off by his mother to Go eat dinner 😭I even took days off from work to play this and pretended to be sick.

The characters are well written as they are complete opposites of each other, Zoe is friendly and optimistic while Mio is the opposite. Their personality traits clash so well that they blend so effortlessly, getting shoved into this fantasy world they put their differences aside and decide to work with each other thus forming a bond.
This game made it super easy with the controls as they are fairly straight forward. It's beyond action packed and colourful. It feels mesmerising to look at. That grappling hook gave me Ada wong PTSD from seperate ways.😭😭 loved it. All Fantasy worlds change as you transition between Story genres, so that means you'll get different weapons, vehicles and transformations. This makes the gameplay feel unique and gives us some versatility.

Another thing I can appreciate is the fact if you die you don't have to restart the level you just respawn closer than you need to. Another way this uses the co op mechanism well is how you solve your puzzles as you will have to depend on each other to solve a puzzle. Which means you need to use that 1 combined brain cell between you and who you play with. Thankfully tho the puzzles aren't too long or difficult. The platform stuff is also amazing to go through. There are even hidden places where you think that you won't have access to, but you can, making it more fleshed out. There are different ways to move around and this game certainly gives you the freedom to do such stuff. I always appreciate when a game allows you to experiment with the mechanics.

Man there is so much more I want to talk about this game however stash doesn't provide the space to write much lengthier reviews. But this is a must play. Because it is so well designed so well structured, fantastic graphics, mesmerising gameplay and moments that will make you go WOAHHHH WHAT A GAME!!! Defo My Goty as of right now. (Until Bleach lands next week!!!)

This game breaks several boundaries of the co-op genre. It gave me the feeling the developers just brainstormed whatever ideas came to their mind and they absolutely executed them flawlessly.
They were not scared to experiment and therefore set the standard now in co-op platforming.

The game never gets repetitive as you're too busy admiring everything the game throws at you. Pacing wise it's phenomenal. The diversity of the chapters keeps you guessing what's next in store, as each boss fight or even a short platforming sequence has some kind of element of creativity that makes it stick out.

The two protagonists could not be further apart from each other, yet their character development is what bonds them together and bonds us to their stories. There's always a piece or yourself that you can find which makes it a relatable and emotional experience.

I know this sounds too good to be true and it looks like I'm glazing the hell out of this game, but to keep this review spoiler free just glue a controller to someone you know and play this absolute cinema to find out yourself. 10/10 GOTY so far.

The final chapter alone is worth the entire game — in my opinion, it’s way better than It Takes Two. I loved every second of it and highly recommend it. Definitely a next-gen game that really pushes the PS5’s capabilities. 10/10
